I came across this quote by Jonathan Swift on creativity: “To look at something everyone has looked at, and see something no one else has seen.”
If we look carefully and objectively at things such as people’s behaviours, systems, traditions, etc. What can we notice that others overlook? What can we question that others just accept?
Innovation is never something 100% new but a progression of multiple iterations from creative people who dared to question and see things differently. Who found gaps others didn’t notice, and who were open to possibility.
Maybe we can develop a practice, a knack, of questioning things that seem not to be working so we can develop different perspectives and use our unique experiences and values to help solve problems.
Meaningful change, in my opinion, starts with seeing what could be, while everyone else sees only what is.
