Design and production debt – the accumulation of tasks that need fixing up later – is very hard to avoid. This “debt” consists of all the items on your “need-to-come-back-to-clean” list, and it can quickly become overwhelming if not managed properly.
Implementing systems from the beginning, even if they are not as efficient, can help us reduce that debt. They also help us establish better processes and workflows.
The key part about systems is that they are like living organisms. They need to be fed, monitored and well-maintained. But most importantly they can grow and become a better version of themselves.
It is better to have an inefficient system that can be improved than not having any systems at all.
