What The System Wants

Those who seek change are fighting a system that wants stability. It wants to maintain its patterns, protect its investments, and preserve its power structures.

It wants us to believe that change is way too difficult. That alternatives are too expensive, too inconvenient, too different from what people are used to, and that if we dare to attempt to change it we won’t fit in anymore. We’d become outliers.

It wants incremental improvements that don’t threaten its core. Small adjustments that create the illusion of progress while maintaining the status quo.

It wants us to play by its rules, to measure success by its metrics, and to accept its definition of what’s possible and what’s practical.

Most importantly, it wants us to think we need it more than it needs us.

Understanding the system is key to knowing exactly what we’re trying to change.
